Conservatory Youth Theatre Showcase
Presented by the UofR Conservatory of Performing Arts
Showtimes
- Monday, June 9 - 6:30pm
The Conservatory Youth Theatre Showcase is a special event presenting one act plays from the young performers in the Conservatory of Performing Arts Showtime acting program.
Performances will include the following (in performance order):
Showtime Junior is our youngest acting program featuring performers ages 8-10. This group will be presenting Complaint Department and Lemonade. People will complain about anything — not almost anything, but absolutely anything! In this rapid succession of hysterical grievances, the complaint department takes on everything from Oreo icing to kleptomania and from songs stuck in the head to the price of cheese and on and on and on. Could there be a glimmer of hope for anyone in charge of the complaint department? Written by Kamron Klitgaard. This group is directed by Joseph Shane McLellan.
Showtime Senior (7:15pm class) is our oldest acting program featuring performers ages 11-14. This group will be presenting The Fairy Tale Network. This hilarious play is full of loads of humor for both kids and adults. The Fairy Tale Network is a television network that needs to improve its viewership ratings with exciting new programming. The three mice working as creative consultants for the studio each must come up with a story idea to pitch to their new chief, the Cat. And they need to pitch their ideas fast before they become a fancy feast! They retell the well-known tales of Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Pigs, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but now with new, unexpected twists. Written by John Woodard. This group is directed by Vanessa Nezamloo.
Showtime Senior (5:30pm class) is our oldest acting program featuring performers ages 11-14. This group will be presenting The Hallmarks of Horror. Scary movies are full of different ways to give you nightmares- but once you figure out the formula, the frightful looks pretty funny. Take a whirlwind tour through the common categories of the creepy, from lines like "let's split up!" to tropes like the car that never starts. If you dare to master everything from cobwebs to clowns, you'll be ready when they all converge in a single hilarious finale scene. You won't believe how fast the spine-chilling turns side-splitting when you know the secrets of The Hallmarks of Horror. Written by Peter Bloedel. This group is directed by Vanessa Nezamloo.
There will be a short 10-min transition break between each show just to reset the stage and organize students.
Complaint Department and Lemonade and The Fairy Tale Network are produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Denver, Colorado.
The Hallmarks of Horror is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
