Three eminent musicians, clarinetist James Campbell, cellist Cameron Crozman, and pianist Meagan Milatz—all originally from the Prairies—join forces for a program rich in lyricism, virtuosity, and storytelling. Beethoven’s early clarinet trio brims with wit and bold originality, showcasing a young composer eager to push boundaries. A new suite for cello and piano written for Meagan and Cameron by James’s son, Graham Campbell, adds an exciting new voice, infused with jazz rhythms and sweeping landscapes. Brahms’s late clarinet trio offers a window into the introspective character of the composer. Written for his close friend and favourite clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld, a deep personal expression emerges from the supreme blending of the three instruments.
A JUNO award winner and Order of Canada recipient, James Campbell has been called “Canada’s pre-eminent clarinetist and wind soloist” by the Toronto Star, “a national treasure” by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and “one of the top half dozen clarinetists in the world today” by Fanfare Magazine. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in over 35 countries with over 65 orchestras, including the Boston Pops, the London Symphony and Philharmonic, and every major orchestra in Canada. He has collaborated with Glenn Gould and Aaron Copland and toured with over 35 string quartets, including the Guarneri, Amadeus (when he replaced an ailing Benny Goodman on a tour of California) and Vermeer. Of his over 60 recordings, the BBC and The Times of London rated his recording of the Brahms Clarinet Quintet as the best available. He was named Canada’s Artist of the Year, awarded the Queen’s Gold and Diamond Jubilee Medal, an Honourary Doctor of Laws, and was recently inducted into the CBC’s Classical Music Hall of Fame. James Campbell has been the Artistic Director of the Festival of the Sound, the annual summer Canadian chamber music festival, since 1985 and has programmed over 1500 concerts. Under his direction, the Festival has travelled to England, Japan, and the Netherlands, and it has been the subject of documentaries by BBC Television, CBC Television and TV Ontario.
Cameron Crozman is “a cellist with a rich imagination and a keen mind” (Diapason Magazine) and leads an active career as soloist and chamber musician across
Canada, the USA, and Europe, including with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre, Philharmonie de Paris and Orchestre National d'Ile-de-France. Cameron shares the stage with eminent artists such as James Ehnes, Augustin Hadelich, Louis Lortie, Gérard Caussé, and James Campbell. Cameron’s critically acclaimed recordings with ATMA Classique and Printemps des Arts de Monaco and performances are broadcast on CBC, BBC, RTÉ Radio, Radio France, and Medici.tv. He is grateful to be the winner of the 2024 Fernand-Lindsay Career Grant, supporting the development of his career internationally. Cameron is the co-founder of ClassicalValley, a festival of chamber music and wine in the Okanagan.
Meagan Milatz, pianist, is winner of the 2025-2028 Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer, the biggest prize in Canada and one of the largest in the world for a collaborative emerging artist in classical music. Awarded the 2024 Prix Opus “Discovery of the Year”, Meagan is “a remarkable pianist with a seemingly limitless palette of expression” (Le Devoir). Meagan regularly shares the stage with top international musicians including Andrew Wan, concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Stefan Dohr, Principal Horn of the Berlin Philharmonic, Kai Gleusteen, concertmaster of the Orchestra del Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, cellist Matt Haimovitz, and mandolinist Avi Avital. As a soloist, Meagan has appeared with Edmonton, Regina, Sherbrooke, Saskatoon, and McGill Symphonies. Meagan has performed in concert in Ireland (New Ross Piano Festival), France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Scotland, and Malta. As part of the duo "meagan&amy", she won the first-ever 50-concert Pan-Canadian Tour offered by Jeunesses Musicales Canada, Debut Atlantic, and Prairie Debut. Meagan has a recording contract for nine albums of solo and chamber music with ATMA Classique.
